Here are a few tips to keep your fresh cut flowers looking fresh longer. Essentially do your best to reduce bacterial growth in the water. Bacteria in the water plugs up the stems and prevents the flowers from taking up water, without water the flowers droop and the water smells funky. Yuck all around.
:: use a sparkly clean vase
:: change the water often
:: re-cut the stems and strip the lower part of the stems of leaves
:: you can add homemade floral preservatives if you like.
Here are some recommendations for homemade floral preservative: vinegar, bleach, aspirin, or vitamin C. Choose only one to try at a time. Use small amounts and see what works best for you. If you are looking for specifics regarding these preservatives ask me and I’ll share what I’ve tried.
