Dearest Delight Community,
My name is Daniel. I am the latest addition to the all-star farmer dream-team that has been assembled at Delight Flower Farm.
Last year I was blessed with the opportunity to be the manager of an organic poly-culture farm in Lake County, California. By poly-culture I mean that we did not just produce one crop but a huge diversity of crops that include, but are not limited to: walnuts, zinfandel grapes, apricots, peaches, figs, pomegranates, persimmons, olives, and vegetables.
At the farm in California (Ancient Lake Gardens) we also tended a pack of Llamas that were crucial to our land management. the llamas would help maintain the orchards, provide most excellent fertilizer, and help control populations of invasive and poisonous plants such as poison oak. Ancient Lake Gardens gave me an idea of what the garden of Eden might have looked like.
While it was difficult for me to leave such an abundant situation in beautiful California, the prospect of working with Maggie, Holly, and Liz, was too exciting to pass up. I have worked with all the members of the Delight crew on various projects in the past and their skills, composure, and work ethic make them a powerful force. Maggie, Holly, and Liz are capable of bringing to fruition any idea they come up with, and have the intelligence, creativity, and ethics to come up with some pretty righteous ideas. I am honored and stoked to work with them.
Often, I catch my self day dreaming: visualizing a field full of blooms, butterflies floating over the sea of a trillion colors, the smell of soil, the warmth of the sun on my skin. Manifesting this dream is my calling. With the team, and the support of this wonderful community here in Shampoo-Banana (Champaign-Urbana) I can see, almost step by step, how the dream comes true. The Spring approaches!!!
Paz, Amor, Luz, y Flores,
